This electrifying trio from Taranto has been shaping a bold and immersive sound journey since 2015. Performing under the name Yarákä—derived from a Tupí-Guaraní word evoking the four natural elements—they channel the raw forces of nature and ancient ritual through music. Their sound blends southern Italian roots, Mediterranean melodies, and pulsating African and Amazonian rhythms into original arrangements that whisper, cry out, and ignite.
Yarákä’s work goes beyond musical fusion, delving into the primordial and tracing deep connections between distant cultures and ancient traditions. Each piece unfolds like a ritual—a bridge between the earthly and the sacred—where humanity’s bond with nature and the forces that shape it is not only remembered, but reawakened. Moving between intimate stillness and fervent intensity, they create timeless, visceral soundscapes: music not just to be heard, but deeply experienced.
With their latest album Curannera, released by Zero Nove Nove in April 2023, Yarákä quickly gained international recognition. The album reached #4 on World Music Charts Europe, drew attention from Songlines, won Folkest 2023, and was featured by the national broadcaster Rai Radio3.
Curannera refers to a popular healer who practices folk medicine, working with natural elements in ritual acts to soothe the soul and spirit. She stands as a central muse for Yarákä, embodying a repertoire rooted in ritual and distant cultures. Each song becomes an act of healing—addressing fear, releasing blocked energy, and cleansing the soul through ancestral song.
