ALTER creates inspiring and vibrant spaces for boundary-pushing and adventurous art and music. The festival takes place from September 11th to 13th at multiple venues across Aarhus.

On Thursday evening, you can experience the opening ritual with artist Ana Fosca at turkis. Afterwards, explore the festival’s program at other locations.

On Saturday evening, the early part of the night features British folk music with Rowan Gatherer and inn-inspired folk with the knights from Cuirass. Later, we dance to bass-heavy beats from Nic Krog, raw and futuristic soundscapes from Nídia & Valentina, and the night culminates in a big closing party with C.K. b2b Mandee and Picture heating up the dance floor.

ANA FOSCA

Ana Fosca is a formidable presence — a woman raging, wrestling, and haunted by humanity’s tragedy, violence, and decay. Her sound is dark, bleak noise capturing raw existence in all its cruelty. Though her discography is brief, she has honed her expression through intense live performances across Denmark, Sweden, and Germany — especially within Copenhagen’s wild underground scene.

Her powerful performative expression is deeply rooted in a broad philosophical and artistic tradition: Kierkegaard, Plath, Tarkovsky, Arendt, Vienna Aktionism, Eliane Radigue, and Simone de Beauvoir — all woven into a sonic total work of art.

ROWAN GATHERER

Rowan Gatherer is a traditional English singer and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges historical depth with contemporary sensitivity. As a founding member of London’s Goblin Band and through his solo performances alongside artists such as Shovel Dance Collective, Broadside Hacks, and Daisy Rickman, he has established himself as a strong voice in the new wave of British folk music.

CUIRASS

Two newly appointed knights, living in Europe’s medieval heyday, gather at the local inn to share their tales — spun by wandering bards who weave stories both radiant and grim. These are tales of pride and greed, frivolous pursuits and fierce rivalry, peasants and aristocracy, chivalry and noblewomen. Central to their legend is the gleaming breastplate, a symbol of honor and the burdens it carries.

With their distinctive inn-styled folk, Cuirass invites listeners into a world where raucous communal singing meets the clashing of frothy ales raised high in jubilant toasts.

NIC KROG

Nic Krog is a Danish sound artist and musician based in Berlin, whose work moves between the bass-heavy intensity of club culture and a form of introspective sound art, where spoken word, diary fragments, and noisy textures are interwoven into a deeply personal form. Krog explores themes of isolation, identity, and transformation—crafting musical narratives that revolve around the dissolution and reconstruction of the self in a constant dialogue between the private and the collective.

NÍDIA & VALENTINA

Acclaimed Afro-Portuguese producer and DJ Nídia has been a driving force in reshaping kuduro and batida, blending raw energy with intricate electronic textures. Rooted in the underground club scenes of Lisbon and Bordeaux, her work with Príncipe Discos has brought progressive aesthetics and deep cultural storytelling to the global dance landscape.

Valentina Magaletti is a drummer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist known for her inventive approach to percussion. Moving fluidly between experimental and mainstream worlds, she sculpts rhythm with an ever-evolving palette—ceramic drums, contact microphones, and found objects—creating hypnotic sonic landscapes that defy convention.

Together, they promise a performance where tradition and futurism collide—pulsing with raw intensity, deep rhythmic exploration, and the boundless freedom of sound.

C.K. B2B MANDEE + PICTURE

As the closing party for this year’s ALTER, we have invited local favorites from Safe to do the job! Starting with a 45-minute live set by Picture, followed by a 90-minute back-to-back DJ set by C.K. and ManMade.

Operating under a cloak of mystery, the four members of Safe have worked on numerous projects including DJ Central, Alle, 2 Bit Crew, Nehoki, Palta, Maizena, and many more. They have been driving forces behind Aarhus house music, which has rightly received praise both at home and abroad.
