FATHERS & SONS 2.0

What connects a father and a son – and what creates distance – when upbringing, language, culture, and expectations differ? What is passed on? What changes? And what hopes and dreams do fathers and sons carry across generations?

In the Danish integration debate, we often talk about men with minority backgrounds – but we rarely talk with them. As fathers, they are frequently reduced to simplified narratives, while their own experiences, vulnerabilities, strengths, and hopes seldom find space in the public sphere.

It is precisely these voices that now step forward in FATHERS & SONS.

On stage, we meet seven men who offer insight into what it means to be a man with an ethnic minority background. In their own words, they speak about love, responsibility, grief, betrayal, and pride – and about finding their place both within the family and in society.

ANNIVERSARY PERFORMANCE

Twenty years ago, C:NTACT created FATHERS & SONS as one of its very first productions.

Now, in 2026, we once again take the temperature of the relationship between father and son.

FATHERS & SONS 2.0 is therefore not a nostalgic look back, but a necessary return.

The performance is directed by Youssef Wayne Hvidtfeldt, who himself appeared in FATHERS & SONS 20 years ago – then as a son, now as a director and father. The stories have been developed in collaboration with author and musician Shahin Aakjær and actor Runi Lewerissa.

The performance is supported by the Augustinus Foundation and is a collaboration between the documentary theatre C:NTACT, Baba – The Foundation for Social Responsibility, and NørreBrobyggerne.
