INUÁNIMA is a duo consisting of Aviaja Lumholt (Inuit/Danish) and Igor Rado (Balkan/Danish).
Through ambient, mythological soundscapes, they sing with strong, chanting vocals over powerful drum grooves about the elements of nature, in Greenlandic, English, and their own intuitive language — inspired by traditional Inuit drum singing and Balkan chanting traditions. Their performances carry a ritual quality and include elements of mysterious, raw, sensual, and humorous masked dance, as well as a special ability to invite the audience to chant along in a feeling of primal community.
The duo’s music is a tribute to the primal power of nature, multiculturalism, and the mystery of life.
KUUK: The Journey to the Mother of the Sea – A Musical Shamanic Journey to the Ocean Depths
A dramatized concert where Greenlandic cultural heritage is brought to life through storytelling, drum singing, and musical sound tableaux. The myth of the Mother of the Sea is the greatest of them all — a moral compass that has guided generations across the Arctic.
It speaks of humanity’s responsibility towards nature: show respect, or face ruin.
We follow the shaman, in Greenlandic called an angakkoq, who in desperation throws himself into a spiritual journey to reach the Mother of the Sea. His settlement has stirred her anger, and only he can restore the balance between humans and the sea. Will he succeed in calming her, or will he be pulled into the depths and suffocated at the ocean floor? When the drum speaks, the myth lives on, and in the silence, answers from an ancient world reside.
