DEBASISH GANGULY & MADS EGETOFT DUO
8/5/2026
Doors: 20:00 // Admission: 100 DKK
Debasish Ganguly is a master of his instrument—the sitar, an iconic symbol of Indian music. He has studied with some of the finest teachers and gurus in India, including Acharya Ajoy Sinha Roy and Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. At 53, he is at the height of his artistry. For the past 20 years, he has toured Europe annually, performing in countries such as Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Denmark. In 2018, he began a collaboration with Danish saxophonist Mads Egetoft.
The music is centered around improvisation, rooted in Indian ragas. Debasish Ganguly’s way of shaping his music is characterized by a profound sense of calm, deep sensitivity, and technical mastery. His approach to building solos is distinctly different—more atmospheric, yet at the same time mathematically precise. In contrast to the European improvisation and jazz tradition, it follows a different flow, inviting the Danish musicians out of their comfort zones. Particularly striking is the resonance with Mads Egetoft’s Albert Ayler–inspired approach.
