Experience a beautiful and meditative encounter with Tuareg music and culture as Tartit takes the stage. Their music is a journey through the sonic landscapes of the desert, featuring traditional instruments, female voices, rhythmic clapping, and ceremonial dance steps.

The sound is both moving and hypnotic, inviting you into an ancient communal space where stories of peace, love, and resistance live on through song.

TARTIT

Tartit was formed in exile in 1995 by musicians from the Timbuktu region, specifically the Goundam area, united by a shared purpose: to sing of exile, love, peace, and the Tuareg people's condition. The group was created to preserve traditional Tuareg music and is made up primarily of female voices from the women’s organisation Tartit n’Chetma (Sister’s Union).

In Tuareg culture, knowledge is passed on through life and rituals, and Tartit's concerts are a living journey into the magic of the desert. The music is enchanting and trance-inducing – a blend of traditional melodies, dance, handclaps, and youyou singing, occasionally mixed with electric guitar for a contemporary twist.

The instruments are traditional: the tende (drum), teherdent (lute), and imzad (violin). With their colourful dress and authentic sound, Tartit offers audiences a powerful sense of Tuareg life and spirit. The group has performed around the world and released several albums, most recently Itous in 2017.
