THE HANDOVER + TURKIS TALK
7/11/2025
Doors: 19:00 // Admission: Pay what you can (0-100 DKK)
We’re unfortunately forced to cancel the concert with Mazaher, as the band has faced challenges obtaining visas for Denmark. We’re truly sorry about this – we had looked forward to welcoming them to turkis, and we know many of you were also excited for this experience.
BUT the evening will still be something truly special!
Experience hypnotic, trance-inducing music blending Egyptian ritual rhythms with psychedelic improvisation and experimental sounds as The Handover takes the stage.
turkis invites you to join a talk about the growing challenges of artist visas in Europe, the Nordic countries, and Denmark – and how these issues affect the ability to present music and culture from different parts of the world.
Between the talk and the concert, turkis’ DJs Albert and Mie will spin Roots&Hybrid records and spread plenty of good vibes!

THE HANDOVER
The Handover is a critically acclaimed trio from Egypt, Norway, and Belgium, playing hypnotic, trance-inducing music inspired by ritual rhythms of Egyptian rural life, combined with a healthy dose of psychedelia, kraut riffs, and experimental sounds. Their self-titled album, released by the American cult label Sublime Frequencies (April 2024), has been called one of the label’s best releases.
Since forming in 2023, The Handover has established itself as a phenomenal live act through concerts in Egypt and several festivals across Europe. On stage, the trio sits in a close circle to support the almost telepathic communication between the musicians. A concert with The Handover is a long journey — a gradual build-up from meditative drones to an ecstatic climax with sparkling dance rhythms.
TURKIS TALK – THE EXCHANGE OF MUSIC AND CLOSED BORDERS
Music is constantly moving across our world – between friends, on online platforms, and with touring artists. An exchange that can easily be taken for granted, yet one that takes immense effort to make possible. Finances, language, coordination, logistics, motivation. The work is extensive, but the reward even greater. That’s how we see it at turkis.
On October 7 and November 7, the groups Santrofi from Ghana and Mazaher from Egypt were prevented from performing at turkis due to visa challenges. It’s a frustrating and very present part of our work – one that, in recent years, has become increasingly difficult to see as anything but the result of intentionally complicated application procedures on the Danish side. Visa difficulties affect far more than just us here in Aarhus and Denmark – they have a deep impact on the artists themselves and on larger international tours.
As part of the evening where Mazaher was meant to perform, we turn our focus to the work it takes to bring musicians from around the world to the Nordic region and Denmark – and why it matters that we continue to do so. Victor Hosbond and Nadia Safwat will share their perspectives on the topic: Victor Hosbond, with many years of experience inviting musicians from Ghana to Denmark with his band Total Hip Replacement, and Nadia Safwat, as a musician who has lived and travelled in Egypt and toured with a band from Egypt to Europe. The talk will be facilitated by Thomas Beyer from the turkis office.
MIE DJ’ER B2B DJ ALBERT
turkis’ very own baby-DJs, Albert & Mie, will spin records and brew that sugar-sweet Roots & Hybrid vibe. They bring sounds that awaken memories of past nights at Turkis, when music made the carpets dance. Their soundscapes open horizons toward future musical encounters – moments that may be waiting just around the corner.
